Tasks and responsibilities

Within this role you will be accountable for setting EU policy priorities for the CropScience division and other corporate policy areas such as financial policy in the EU. The successful candidate acts as the lead for the team in charge of developing and implementing strategies aimed at enabling business target achievement in the area of agricultural policy making and regulatory advocacy in the EU. You will also work closely together with Bayer platform Public Governmental Affairs counterparts and regional divisional policy heads in strong cooperation with the Head of the Liaison Office to ensure strategic cohesion across the enterprise.

Main tasks and responsibilities

  • As a Business Partner for the CropScience division you assess the upcoming political and regulatory trends at EU and Member States level, the development and implementation of strategies and business-specific policies, public affairs and stakeholder relations plans related to agriculture, crop protection, seeds and digital farming at EU level.

  • Assess relevant policy developments, developing and executing strategies and specific policies. Ensures immediate actions on cross-divisional issues and policies that impact all of Bayer businesses in strong alignment with the Liaison Office team.
  • Conduct stakeholder analysis and outreach with business related, government, non-government, NGO advocacy groups and trade associations in accordance with Bayer policies.
  • Develop public affairs tools and best practices to enable continuous improvement of functional capabilities and enhance public affairs strategies and implementation.
  • Proactively manage Bayer’s reputation in the external environment.
  • Coordinate with other relevant functions both on Member State, regional and global level (e.g. APSA, Regulatory).
  • Act as deputy to Liaison Office Head and ensures consistency in policy issue management and acts as functional lead for EU network.

Who you are

  • University degree with an agricultural and/or political focus.
  • Around 10-15 years’ experience in governmental affairs and/or EU institutions preferably with experience in the agrochemical industry.
  • Solid network in Academia, political institutions and industry but also with internal management & staff.
  • Experience and strength in political communication, lobbying and representation, including ability to interact with critical stakeholders on an intercultural level. This to think strategically and explain complex issues in an easy understandable language, concise and condensed, and deliver facts and messages lucidly.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in combination with cross-functional and cross-national management skills.
  • Full working proficiency in English and additional official language spoken within the EU on a near native level.
