Economist/Statistician Intern (m/f/d)

Brussels, Belgium

If you have qualifications and/or experience in economics, mathematics or statistic, and would like to support the recycling industry, you could join the global federation of recycling industries, BIR, for a six-month internship.

Job description

During the internship, which will be located in Brussels, Belgium, your work will focus on technical, trade and environmental data and information. You will consult databases (e.g. UN COMTRADE; EUROSTAT; material databases; etc) and gather data published in the press, studies, academic works, websites etc…. After collation, you will undertake quantitative and qualitative analyses of primary material production data, secondary material production data, interpreting and disseminating data, environmental data, and summarize in concise reports, presentations and fact sheets the substantial facts and data of the industry.

This mission will include:

  • Contacting BIR member companies and associations
  • Providing BIR Commodity Divisions and Committees with data and statistics;
  • Attending relevant meetings (external and in-house) regarding statistics/publications/conventions;
  • Participating in and contributing to the success of BIR Conventions;
  • Taking written minutes of relevant meetings;
  • Working in close cooperation with all colleagues.

This position reports to the Director General.

Key Qualifications

You must be a post-graduate in economics, mathematics, statistics or a related discipline. Some relevant experience would be an advantage.

  • Full proficiency in written and spoken English;
  • Strong MS Office skills;
  • Experience with databases;
  • A proactive, well-organized team player with great attention to detail;
  • Ability to work independently and think outside the box;
  • French language skills are a plus;
  • Strong capacity for information analysis and summary;
  • Writing skills.

A full-time, 6-month internship remunerated according to Belgian law (CIP) and the opportunity to learn about the recycling industry, circular economy, international trade challenges, in a multi-cultural environment. Position to be filled asap.
