Director External EU Affairs & Alliance Development

For our division Government Affairs and Policy (GA&P) we are currently seeking a new colleague „Director External EU Affairs & Alliance Development“.
Scope: This is an Enterprise function with three distinct roles, supporting EMEA (Brussels & Key Markets):
  •  External EU Affairs
  •  Alliance Development
  •  Enterprise Lead

Key Tasks

External EU Affairs

  • Participate in developing EU government affairs & policy strategy for the company and its business units.
  • Develop and drive a structured EU engagement plan for the GA&P EMEA Leadership team and/or EMEA business leaders.
  • Own and continuously update key existing content from Johnson & Johnson and the sectors, which can be leveraged in external engagements.
  • Lead the execution of the European Health Parliament, and potentially other Youth Parliaments in key European countries.
  • Own and boost the digital tools needed for effective, modern public/government affairs engagement. Develop new content as needed, to support external affairs and advocacy activities.

Alliance Development

  • Develop/implement Alliance Development strategy for Johnson & Johnson GA&P EMEA and leverage expertise/integrate initiatives from worldwide Centre of Excellence on Alliance Development
  • Act as a resource to sector leads for regional policy/advocacy goals, wherever alliances could be relevant/helpful
  • Optimize impact and ROI around existing EU partnerships of GA&P in Brussels
  • Deliver a single J&J voice, own and foster relationships with key patient and health advocates with policy impact at EU level. Build trust through best practices like “open house” events, regular team meetings, etc.
  • Coordinate with other colleagues the GA&P EMEA involvement in key international/global organizations (e.g. G7, B20 etc.) and platforms and lead our engagement with OECD.
  • Support key EMEA markets by assessing “current status” on alliances and identifying future resource needs. Create plan to fulfil future needs.
  • Enterprise Lead
  • Establish an environment in GA&P EMEA that fosters creative and bold idea generation relevant to the function and positioning of Johnson & Johnson.
  • Foster team alignment to the GA&P EMEA One Team approach and equip team to serve as ambassador for its success to other internal stakeholders.
  • Lead on Enterprise wide projects and policy development at EU Institutional level
  • Manage a team of cross-sector young professionals (currently 4 full time) that support both aligned business priorities per sector, as well as Enterprise and Alliance Development/External Affairs projects with monitoring services, event organisation, external representations, gathering and developing content, etc.
  • Drive an integrated approach to an annual Goals & Objectives process for GA&P EMEA
  • Develop a structured public affairs approach that GA sector teams should deploy in critical product launch plans, market expansion activities, therapeutic area work.

Enterprise Lead 

  • Establish an environment in GA&P EMEA that fosters creative and bold idea generation relevant to the function and positioning of Johnson & Johnson.
  • Foster team alignment to the GA&P EMEA One Team approach and equip team to serve as ambassador for its success to other internal stakeholders.
  • Lead on Enterprise wide projects and policy development at EU Institutional level
  • Manage a team of cross-sector young professionals (currently 4 full time) that support both aligned business priorities per sector, as well as Enterprise and Alliance Development/External Affairs projects with monitoring services, event organisation, external representations, gathering and developing content, etc.

Qualifications

  • Have a strong network with EU Institutional stakeholders.
  • Have strong presence, outstanding interpersonal skills, excellent leadership and influencing skills, an established level of credibility and strong understanding of external stakeholders;
  • Demonstrate excellent goal-orientation and capacity to articulate the value/impact of any activity/project;
  • Able to deal with the complexity, ambiguity and relationship management that are critical in these settings;
  • Demonstrate a mature, adaptive and flexible disposition to credibly and effectively interact with a range of diverse internal stakeholders and senior level GA&P and business executives;
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and lead in a complex matrixed environment are critical, as well as proven track record in managing people.
  • Experience in Government Affairs, External communications/Public Affairs, Marketing could be relevant
  • Be prepared to travel up to 20%.
