Junior Consultant – Economic Growth & Digital Innovation (m/f/d)

Responsibilities

The successful candidates will contribute to projects in the fields of economic growth and digital innovation policies. This involves contributing to both research work and hands-on project delivery as well as proposal and report writing. Most of the projects are conducted on behalf of the European Commission (particularly DG GROW, DG CONNECT and DG REGIO) or related EU institutions and agencies. They often involve collaboration with multiple partners. You will also contribute to Ecorys’ communication and outreach activities, including presentations at conferences and workshops. You will collaborate with colleagues throughout Ecorys. Depending on your experience and skills we would discuss and agree with you the exact portfolio of your tasks and a career path for your future development in the company.

Profile

Essential

  • A university degree in economics, business, political science or related subject;
  • A very good knowledge and understanding of the functioning of EU institutions and key EU policies;
  • An excellent level of written and spoken English, developed through an extended period of study or work experience in an English-speaking environment;
  • A strong interest in subjects such as innovation, new technologies and digitalisation, industrial modernisation;
  • A strong interest in developing a broad set of research and hands-on project management skills covering amongst others evaluations, impact assessments, match-making, onsite coaching, developing and following-up of roadmaps etc.;
  • Strong skills in Microsoft Office (in particular Excel);
  • Strong analytical skills;
  • An ability to work flexibly and organise and prioritise parallel tasks;
  • A curious mind.

Desirable

  • Confidence and expertise with quantitative research, including familiarity with large data sets;
  • Experience with European Institutions (e.g. Bluebook traineeship at the European Commission);
  • Familiarity with economic, regional, digital and innovation policies;
  • Knowledge of evaluation and impact assessment methodologies;
  • Familiarity with EU policies across economic sectors and Directorate Generals;
  • Experience with working with databases.

  • Start date: From 06/01/2020 onwards;
  • Type of entry-contract: Initially, a 6-month Convention of Professional Immersion (CIP), subject to approval by Brussels Formation; as part of the growth strategy for the office, the intention is to follow up with a regular employment contract upon satisfactory performance. Direct coaching is provided during the CIP period (and beyond) including an assessment of the performance after 3 months;
  • Background of this entry-contract form: it allows the successful candidate to become familiar with the particularities of EU-specific research-based consultancy without the full commercial pressures. A personal development plan would be part of the traineeship period to support the smooth and successful transition towards a permanent position;
  • Indicative remuneration: For the initial CIP period € 1100 average net per month followed by competitive remuneration package in junior consultant grade (upon successful completion of the CIP).
