Senior Policy Advisor Research & Innovation

CESAER is the European association of doctorate-granting specialised and comprehensive universities of science & technology that champion excellence in higher education, training, research and innovation, influence debate, contribute to the realisation of open knowledge societies and deliver significant scientific, economic, social and societal impact.

We seek a Senior Policy Advisor Research & Innovation to start as soon as possible working fulltime at our Secretariat.

Core responsibilities

  • contribute to the aims and activities of our Association in research and innovation
  • promote our Association as stakeholder at European level
  • represent our Association externally
  • serve and advise our governing bodies, committees and task forces

Examples of tasks

  • gather intelligence and provide high-quality and targeted information
  • initiate and contribute to positions of Members and decision-making
  • participate in and organise events and report thereon
  • initiate, monitor and support new strategies and activities in European Research Area, open science policy and innovation and funding within CESAER and beyond

Essential requirements

  • coordinate, liaise with and lobby activities of members at national and European institutions and stakeholder level
  • master degree with at least five years relevant working experience
  • knowledge and experience in policy-making processes at European level and of European Union institutions and elaborate corresponding networks
  • in-depth knowledge of European research and innovation policies and funding programmes and related lobbying
  • experience of working with senior university leaders, senior academics and policy makers in an international context
  • excellent communication and relationship building skills
  • track record in delivering high-quality results under pressure and working autonomously as well as in a small team
  • fluency, both spoken and written, in English and at least two other languages widely spoken in Europe
  • excellent oral and written communication skills and proven track record in writing and editing articles, reports and policy papers
  • excellent IT and social media skills
  • willingness to travel within Europe and beyond and work in non-office times such as evenings and weekends
  • excellent investigative skills
  • distinct integrity, loyalty and service- and result-orientation
  • legal entitlement to work in EU

Desirable requirements

  • experience with membership-based organisations and universities of science & technology
