Public Affairs & Corporate Communications Manager

We are looking for a strong candidate for the position of Public Affairs & Corporate Communications Manager. This position reports to the Head of Patient Experience & Public Affairs

Role Objective

  • Build and sustain external relationships with key societal and political healthcare stakeholders and provide external & internal communications for Takeda in Belgium, ensuring effective engagement and employer branding
  • Drive the strategy-setting, engagement, and activation of all external stakeholders who influence the policies or determine patients` access to healthcare information and support
  • Construct and roll-out a long term Public Affairs & Communications Plan for the therapeutic areas, with cross-departmental actions; adapt plan to changing situations and priorities
  • Create and execute communication strategies that align with the corporate business objectives and reinforce the reputation of Takeda in Belgium and Luxemburg

Accountabilities

Public Affairs & External Relations

  • Map & gather insights of the health care environment
  • In collaboration with and in support of the Market Access Department, monitor and analyse new government initiatives, potential changes in law and broader developments (including parliamentary activities regarding healthcare); identify key trends
  • Proactively assess their business consequences in Belgium and Luxembourg, in close collaboration with other teams (market access, regulatory, medical, business units)
  • Determine the engagement and advocacy strategies that will most effectively achieve policy changes & business objectives
  • Develop campaigns in collaboration with the Business Units & Market Access
  • Identify and approach stakeholders and influencers to understand common points of interest or similar priorities in their agendas
  • Be the representative in some key platforms of discussion
  • Determine approaches to engage & activate external stakeholders to achieve policy changes and execute them by means of coalition-building, proactive campaigns, calls to action, etc.
  • Develop partnerships with healthcare provider associations (physicians, pharmacists, hospital, nurses…), think tanks, health economics & -policy academia,…, in order to discuss trends and concerns and evaluate how to maintain both a sustainable healthcare system and balanced economic environment, e.g. through implementation of corporate programs, at conferences, symposia, industry association meetings

Communications – general

  • Support key outward facing functions such as Medical and Market Access to position & communicate medical, scientific and social-economic value of Takeda’s innovations
  • Support the Business Units in translating their messages into strong and robust communication
  • Mitigate risk by nurturing strong relationships with key external stakeholders including media, industry professional groups as well key internal stakeholders
  • Support the Managing Director and senior leadership team with considered counsel on reputation related matters and leading issues preparations and response
  • Support the HR Department for employer branding
  • Serve as the Belgian liaison with EUCAN Corporate Communications to ensure local strategy aligns with local objectives and to leverages local resources for the benefit of the local business
  • Support all facets of the business to maintain the integrity of the corporate brand, ensuring all usage of the brand (whether external or internal) complies with company guidelines
  • Ensure that all communications materials and activities comply with Takeda operating procedures and the relevant local or European industry regulations

Media relations

  •  Increase Takeda’s media footprint
  •  Act as a first point of contact and spokesman for local media requires
  • Identity and maintain working relationships with key journalists and bloggers
  • Ensure on-time delivery of regional media monitoring, key message development and company press events – working in partnership with local market communications leads where appropriate
  • Monitor outcomes against measurable objectives and indicators e.g. media coverage, social media conversations, content analysis, website analysis

Internal communications

  • Partner with Managing Director and key functions (e.g. Human Resources) to develop compelling content to support EUCAN and LOC communications
  • Develop creative internal communication programmes, informing employees of important company-related news
  • Showcase the success of external corporate communications initiatives amongst employees, ensuring the employees are made aware of key activities before they are communicated externally
  • Collaborate with internal EUCAN Corporate Communications Manager on employee engagement activities
  • Ensure local commercial activities are showcased to EUCAN / global colleagues

Reputation and issues management

  • Drive Takeda awareness and reputation amongst priority stakeholders
  • Proactively manage issues and mitigate risk through:
  • Overseeing environmental monitoring/listening (both traditional and social/digital media)
  • Leading the development and maintenance of an issues management/crisis communication plan and the resources required to adhere to it
  • Engaging with key internal and external stakeholders to identify emerging issues and develop appropriate responses

Corporate brand

  •  Drive internal and external corporate brand building to reinforce the company’s positioning among key stakeholders, through:
  • Driving awareness of the specialty care transformation story externally maximising Takeda owned channels (e.g. LinkedIn, websites) and external channels (e.g. media)
  • Identifying external opportunities to profile the company and senior leaders at both a national and community level (e.g. thought leadership features via industry media or established platforms to attract new talent)

  • Ability to translate public affairs objectives in a strategic action plan
  • Excellent analytical skills and strategic thinking to understand and address stakeholders needs
  • Strong interpersonal and networking skills
  • Experience in relationships building and management with internal and external key stakeholders; key account management skills

Communications

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to make complex issues easy to understand; good affinity to adapt messaging to the relevant audiences
  • Understanding of the opportunities presented by digital and social media platforms
  • Demonstrable success/experience in driving corporate awareness and implementing corporate positioning and transformation initiatives both internally and externally

  • Knowledge of the engagement environment, including platforms, strategies and tactics
  • Is aware of and able to work within all local laws, regulations, incl. internal compliance

Qualification

  • Academic qualifications (e.g. Master of Communication Science, Master in Journalism & Media, Public Relations, Political Science, Economy or similar)
  • General interest in current events (Belgium, regions, Europe, global)
  • In-depth knowledge of the Belgian political and healthcare systems
  • Experience in public speaking
  • Established and proven stakeholder networking capabilities (mandatory)
  • Highly developed written and oral communication skills are essential
  • Previous experience in the pharmaceutical and/or healthcare sector or demonstrated experience in a similar public affairs / communications position (min 3 years) in a highly regulated industry, trade association, consultancy or related organization/field
  • High interest in the broad environment (macro – political, economic, social)
  • Good understanding of the challenges of the innovative pharmaceutical sector and the healthcare sector in general
  • Fluency in Dutch, French and English (mandatory)
