The role

In this role you will ensure that EU rules and regulations for electricity market design, and specifically regarding solar PV and battery storage, enable, facilitate and promote Tesla Energy’s products and solutions in all EU member states.The role will be a part of our European cross-functional policy and business development team. This team is, in part, responsible for developing, promoting, and implementing regulatory policy to allow Tesla and the EV, solar, and storage industries to accelerate its deployments of sustainable mobility, energy, and storage solutions across the EMEA region.Besides a rock-solid work ethic and a strong team oriented personality, all members of our team display creativity, passion, and a desire to break new ground in a constantly shifting technology, business, and regulatory landscape.   • Externally, lead policy engagement processes, at many levels, including EU parliament, the EC, ACER, ENTSOE-E, etc., ensuring that Tesla is called upon for consultation and comment to promote Tesla’s energy-related priorities
  • Manage day-to-day relationships to maintain and grow high impact network within key public stakeholder offices
  • Work to proactively identify opportunities and/or preempt or remove legal and political barriers posed by regulatory and competitive actors to ensure key existing and helpful policies are maintained or strengthened, and that potential obstacles or issues of discrimination are resolved or softened
  • Identify and engage with key stakeholders and allies (e.g. key industry players such as TSOs) to forge relevant, ad-hoc, and structural partnerships with business and civil society
  • Participate in lobby organization meetings, and coordinate actions through strategic partners in government and industry
  • Represent Tesla energy in meetings and events and arrange appropriate speaking opportunities and media exposure for Tesla, working in collaboration with Tesla’s communications department
  • Support establishment and execution of a political communication strategy
  • Internally, lead strategic policy formulation in close coordination with Tesla Energy Products EMEA leadership and Tesla’s global policy & government relations team
  • Coordinate all activity in Brussels for Tesla Energy Products with the other EU focused policy staff to ensure consistent positioning of Tesla across energy, charging, EV and other topics
  • Contribute to national policy activities by providing guidance to local Tesla policy staff to ensure consistency in terms of positions and policy preferences
  • Work closely with local Tesla policy staff on national policy discussions if those are expected to influence EU policy making
  • Provide clear, to-the-point assessment of impact of (proposed) policy (changes) on Tesla energy related business, as well as recommended actions, to Tesla EMEA leadership
  • Provide key regulatory and policy making insights for the broader business team, and translate policy developments into tangible impact on market potential and help shape business development and sales accordingly
  • Support policy work by develop any necessary evidence base, researching (proposed) policy (changes), gathering intelligence and as needed prepare position papers, policy briefings, presentations, and legislative testimony for pending legislative actions
  • Ensure evidence supporting Tesla objectives gets publicized, again working in collaboration with Tesla’s communications department


  • Demonstrated performance in a corporate development and/or government relations role, or in a related field, on the European level
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills
  • Best-in-class familiarity with EU public sector and policymaker objectives and processes, their thinking, and appropriate types of relations and interaction
  • Ability to deploy existing network of high-level decision-makers in and around the European Parliament and Commission.
  • Proven effectivity in interactions with policymakers and regulators, including ability to define, strategize, communicate, and deliver against business objectives
  • Ability to effectively execute many tasks in parallel, with various teams, within in a fast-moving and team-oriented environment
  • Comfortable working in situations where outcomes are vague


  • Education: BA/BS, with Masters preferred
  • Language: Fluent in English, and excellent communicator in one other major EU language
  • 10 years or more of relevant work experience
  • Familiarity with MS suite
  • Knowledge of electricity storage, renewable energy generation, and electricity grids
  • Brussels based or willing to relocate to Brussels
