Visa seeks Policy Advisor
Direct Report to: Director, Regulatory Affairs & Government Relations Europe (Brussels – based)
The Policy Lead for Regulatory Affairs & Government Relations for Europe is a key full-time role focused on Visa’s regulatory and government affairs in Brussels and the European Region. The role entails contribute to the development of Visa’s regulatory and government affairs strategy, by constructively engaging with regulatory bodies, policy makers, public sector agencies and relevant stakeholders with a view to ensuring regulatory framework that is conducive to a fair, competitive and successful operating environment for Visa’s business.
Key regulatory and government affairs goals include:
- Support positioning Visa with political, regulatory and policy decision-makers in Brussels and in the European Region;
- Contribute to ensure positive impact on Visa’s business, and the expansion of the electronic payments industry in general, of any proposed/new public and regulatory policies, including at the national level;
- Assist in identifying business opportunities with government and ensuring Visa is well positioned to take advantage of potential partnerships with national government agencies in the stimulating digital payments, cash displacing, financial literacy, smart cities and other potential government projects that may benefit from the application of electronic payments;
- Contribute to the continuous enhancement of Visa Government Affairs function, toolkit, staff and competency.
- As a member of the European Regulatory & Government Relations team, the position demands the ability to operate simultaneously in the regional and global corporate environment. Working as a member of cross-functional teams is essential. The ability and willingness to play an active role in developing strategic positions on country, regional and global public and regulatory policy positions for Visa will be important.
- The ability to work independently and interact constructively with other functions is expected. Travel within the European region and occasionally to the US are also features of the position.
- Support development and implement of the regulatory and government affairs strategy for Brussels and the region in close coordination with the Director for European Regulatory Affairs and Government Relations.
- Monitor the regulatory and political landscape in Brussels and the region for threats and opportunities to Visa’s business and communicate this intelligence to locally-based business leaders, functional colleagues and global management.
- Support management of Visa’s relationships with officials at key government agencies in Brussels, including education of these officials about the value of Visa thereby improving the company’s overall reputation.
- Regularly communicate directly with lawmakers, government officials, regulators, and policy makers – both in Brussels and in the European region – to enhance Visa’s reputation and competitive position.
- Contribute to the development of informative and engaging communications about the value of Visa and the payments industry in general, in full alignment with business priorities and global branding.
- Support local Country Management engagement with key policy makers and regulators, in line with Visa Government Relations strategy for the region.
- Recommend, support engagement and contribute to the management of Visa’s relationships with industry associations, business trade associations, lobbying groups and civil society organizations in Brussels.
- Support promotion of Visa’s reputation and profile by identifying speaking opportunities at public events, legislative hearings, industry conferences, association committees and roundtables, etc.
- 4-6+ years in relevant corporate position; law firms; regulatory/ government agency; prominent consultancy.
- University degree in Politics or equivalent: international professional experience is a plus.
- Acute awareness of EU decision making process and political environment.
- Strong digital services and/or technology interest: knowledge of the payment industry is a plus.
- Strategic advocacy and communications skills.
- Good inter-personal and presentational abilities.
- Excellent written and spoken communication abilities in English, proficiency in other languages is a plus.
- Ability to act independently but also as a team player.
