Legal Advisor Environment/Energy (m/f/d)

Milieu Consulting is a multi-disciplinary consultancy based in Brussels with a record of excellence in international and European policy and law – in fields such as environment, energy and climate change, fundamental rights, justice employment and social policy, public health, consumer protection, and financial services. We provide our expertise mainly for European institutions and other public sector clients. Do you want to be part of this dynamic and passionate multi-cultural team? Are you a motivated lawyer with solid knowledge of EU legislation? We are looking for a full-time Legal Advisor with a background in EU law and expertise in environment or energy, for an immediate position to support our busy team.

In this position you will get the chance to work on, and support the management of, projects for different European Commission DGs and agencies including DG Environment, DG Move, DG Energy, DG Clima. Our recent work includes projects on industrial emissions, air quality, the Renovation Wave, the Green Deal, the Energy Efficiency Directive, circular economy, the enforcement of the Common Fisheries Policy and the risk of fraud inherent in the EU ETS.

Key tasks will include the following:

  • Research and development of analytical reports on European law covering a range of environmental and energy issues;
  • Managing/supporting the management of projects to budget while ensuring that deadline and quality objectives are met, and supporting the coordination of multidisciplinary teams;
  • Development and drafting of proposals;
  • Liaison and meeting with clients to review and report project progress;
  • Contribute towards the strategic vision of the business.

The key qualifications required for the position are:

  • At least a masters’ degree in law from an EU university;
  • Expertise in environment and/or energy;
  • Knowledge of transport law or sustainable finance is a definite asset;
  • Good knowledge of EU legislation and/or strong exposure to the EU institutions;
  • Proven expertise in at least one EU country’s legislation;
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant work experience. Candidates with project management experience and/or experience in consultancy for the EU institutions will be prioritised;
  • An independent, self-starter personality with a commitment to quality;
  • Well-organised, practical-minded and able to prioritise a busy and varied workload;
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Word;
  • Clear, concise and accurate writing skills in English, including the ability to review and edit the work of others;
  • Knowledge of other EU languages is an asset.
