Manager (m/f/d) of a component in the Programme to Build and Strengthen the Police Structures in Selected Partner Countries in Africa

Job description

The police programme in Africa operates in eleven country measures. On behalf of the Federal Foreign Office, the programme provides support to national and regional police institutions. Activities include advising on police reform processes, organising training measures, providing technical equipment and performing renovation work for police infrastructure. Field staff members work in the programme countries and assume responsibility for implementing the country measures. A coordination office in Berlin manages the project.

Your tasks

•Responsibility for implementing the Nigeria country component, in consultation with the programme management in Berlin
• Leading a team of national staff
• Collaborating with and providing technical advisory services to the project partners
• Providing support in the development of strategy and concept papers
• Cooperating with other stakeholders in the sector
• Engaging in information work and cooperation with the German mission abroad

Your profile

• University degree in the fields of governance, political science or criminology, or relevant police training and in-depth knowledge of police work
• Many years of professional experience in advising on police reform processes or security sector reforms, as well as in policy and organisational advisoryservices
• Sound knowledge of German and international development cooperation work, GIZ procedure and instrument security
• Experience of working in the areas of peace and security outside Europe, preferably in Africa
• Management experience is desirable
• Ability to work in a team, great personal commitment, flexibility and resilience
• Business fluency in English and a good command of German
