Public Affairs and Communications Advisor (m/f/d)

Two positions: One permanent and one maternity cover for one year
Start date: September 2021
Location: Brussels – remote working may be considered

Compassion in World Farming International is a leading global farm animal welfare organisation campaigning to bring an end to factory farming and to implement the highest animal welfare standards in Europe and beyond.

With over one million supporters, as well as representations in eleven European countries, the US, China and South Africa, we lead a growing worldwide movement of people concerned about how industrial agriculture mistreats animals, wastes precious resources and utterly fails to meet the needs of the planet’s inhabitants.

Compassion in World Farming EU is based in Brussels and campaigns to strengthen European legislation and enforcement on farm animal welfare. Our advocacy work targets the European Parliament, the European Commission, the Council of the European Union and other stakeholders in Brussels.

We are currently looking for experienced candidates with excellent communication and analytical skills. Our ideal candidates will have sound knowledge gained in similar positions with a proven experience in political communications or public affairs driving policy change. It is also desirable that you have a good knowledge of EU political institutions and some knowledge of farm animal welfare issues.

Key responsibilities:

  • Delivering communications, lobbying and advocacy work within a portfolio of issues set by the Head of CIWF EU;
  • Supporting the profile of Compassion’s work in Brussels, by developing communications materials – such as press releases, web news, social media assets and leaflets;
  • With guidance, preparing outreach materials for the European Commission, Parliament and Council and other EU institutions – such as letters, briefings, position papers, contributions to public consultations and voting recommendations;
  • Support outreach to a variety of external stakeholders;
  • Supporting the Head of CIWF EU and the development of the Brussels office by undertaking administrative, operational and office management tasks.
